Mike Ostrander

Capt. Mike loves the James River.  If he's not leading a Bald Eagle Tour, he's probably fishing on a jonboat somewhere for smallmouth bass, or just flipping rocks in the shallows of the James, investigating the abundant life beneath them.

Capt. Mike began his trek towards a river based business in 1997 when he worked with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries as a volunteer Angling Instructor.  In 2001 he attained his USCG Captain's License and in 2012 he achieved his Master's Captain's license. Today, 30 years later, Capt. Mike operates Discover the James, an eco based guide business.

He is a recipient of the "Steward of the James" award, presented by the James River Advisory Council, and named a "River Hero" by the Friends of James River Park. Capt. Mike loves the James River, and when he's sharing this passion with others, that's where he truly excels and when you are with him, you can tell he's loving every minute of it.
