James River Fishing School - Fishing Instruction

Fishing Instruction with the James River Fishing School

The James River Fishing School was founded in 2001 specializing in teaching fishing to both kids and adults. Since then we have grown into so much more. As the saying goes, "There is so much more to fishing than just catching fish." Although we have grown into an eco tour business as well as a fishing school, at the heart of everything we do, fishing is in it's soul.

Learn the basics of fishing, including how to cast, retrieve, handle fish and unhook them. Discover secrets to identifying the various species of sunfish, bass and catfish you catch. We make a special effort to tailor our instruction to your needs.

Enjoy your fishing instruction from a pontoon boat, jon boat, raft or from the shoreline and in the river. Get into the river to make a few casts or ride around in a boat making casts along the shoreline of the deeper James River. We offer trips in both the tidal James as well as the non tidal James River on one of our comfortable river crafts.

Right photo: During a Cat's Cap outing, leader of the group, Suzanne (with sunglasses), is all smiles, as are her students.  The girls caught plenty of catfish on this outing and learned a little bit about the James River along the way.  I don't think the girl in the back (middle, blue pfd) liked this 28 pound flathead catfish.  Pretty funny!

What do people have to say about the James River Fishing Schools 'Instructional Fishing Outings'?
"I had no idea we could catch that many fish in a day.  And I can come back tomorrow, by myself and have the confidence to catch more."
